"Power of Being a Girl"

The YWCA Brandon held its first Power of Being a Girl Conference in 2004. The conference is a one-day even aimed at girls aged 11-13 from Brandon and Westman areas. The goal of the conference is to educate young women on the importance of drugs, addiction, self esteem, bullying, healthy relationships and other issues they face daily and to provide information on how to make healthy choices. All of the sessions are interactive and incorporate fun activities such as hip hop dancing, yoga, Latin American dance and karaoke to help the girls interact with each other. The conference has received recognition from YWCA Canada and runs in conjunction with YWCA Week Without Violence.
